Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island Microgrid – Ph.2

Modeselekt was contracted by Virgin to design and integrate the secure microgrid controls network to integrate 1.2MWh of battery storage, a combined 900kW of wind power, a second desalination plant “water battery”, pool heat pumps and other controllable loads into the existing solar+diesel microgrid that we had previously built. 

The Necker Island microgrid is up and running to this day and has reduced diesel consumption by an average of 90% per year! Very exciting to have this island run on 100% renewables on many days.  

We are incredibly proud to have been a part of the innovative team that designed, built, and commissioned one of the most sophisticated and innovative island microgrids on the planet today that is helping to carry out the Virgin vision of a carbon-free Caribbean.
